Pre-disaster team has public hearing Tuesday

Monday, February 5, 2007

The Putnam County Pre-Disaster Mitigation Planning Team will be conducting a public meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 6 in council chambers room of the courthouse annex, 209 W. Liberty St., Greencastle.

This public hearing covers the federally required Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan for the county.

The required plan, as enacted by Congress with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, is designed to help identify possible mitigation strategies to reduce the loss during a natural disaster event and once complete provides the community the opportunity to be eligible for mitigation funding to implement those strategies.

West Central Indiana Economic Development District Inc., as the regional planning organization for the area, is teaming up with The Polis Center-IUPUI in assisting the Putnam County Planning Team in completing this plan. The planning team welcomes public participation and input during this meeting.

This meeting will feature a speaker for the Indiana Geological Survey who will discuss the geological characteristics of Putnam County.

Any written comments from the public can be submitted to the attention of Terry Jones of West Central Indiana Economic Development District Inc. at P.O. Box 359 Terre Haute, IN 47808.
