Kindergarten round-up planned

Friday, March 2, 2007

North Putnam Community School Corporation will be hosting Kindergarten Round-Up from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, March 12-Friday, March 16

Parents should enroll their children at Roachdale Elementary or Bainbridge Elementary depending on where they reside. Children do not need to attend the Round-Up, as they will have the opportunity to visit the schools during registration in August.

Children who will be 5-years-old on or before Aug. 1 are eligible to enter the Kindergarten class. Parents must bring a certified copy of the student's birth certificate or other reliable proof of the student's full legal name and date of birth, such as a passport.

A certified copy can be obtained by contacting the Bureau of Vital Records in the state where the student was born. Many states now have this request available on the Internet. There is a usually a minimal charge.

Parents must also have proof of immunizations including 5 DPT, 4 IPV, 3 Hepatitis B and 2 MMR shots.

The state now requires the varicella, or chicken pox, vaccination for all Kindergarten and first grade students. If the child has had the chicken pox already, the month and the year needs to be documented by the parents to the school.

For those unable to attend the Round-Up, call either Bainbridge Elementary at 522-6233 or Roachdale Elementary at 522-1732 to verify your child's placement in Kindergarten for the 2007-08 academic year.
