Tigers pick up fifth victory

GREENCASTLE -- The DePauw University baseball squad trailed 7-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth against Wabash Wednesday but the Tigers still had some life left in them.

DePauw scored one in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in each of the eighth and ninth to knock off the Little Giants, 8-7.

The win improved the Tigers to 5-5 this season, including its fifth straight victory. Wabash fell to 3-7.

Wabash scored three in the top of the third and two in each of the fifth and sixth to take a 7-0 lead.

But Adam Ford hit a solo home run in the sixth to get DePauw on the board before Mike Stout hit a three-run blast in the seventh to close the gap to 7-4.

Matt Kleine led off the ninth for the Tigers with a single before stealing second. He then scored on Ford's single to center. After Ford advanced on a grounder, Justin Weiner came in as a pinch-runner and moved to third on a wild pitch. Drew Holy then drove in Weiner with a single for the win.

DePauw tallied 13 hits as Dickinson, Chris Newman, Ford, Holy and Kyle Thompson each had two. Wabash totaled 14 hits in the loss.

Derek Bryant started the game for the Tigers but lasted just three innings. He allowed two runs off five hits and two walks while striking out two.

Jeremy Alland pitched two innings in relief, giving up two runs, before being relieved by Brad Gerlach. Gerlach lasted three and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs.

Paul Rodenhouse picked up the win in relief. He pitched one-third of an inning, allowing just one hit.

The Tigers will face Ohio Northern at home Saturday in a doubleheader, beginning at noon.
