Mary Phillips

Aug. 29, 1933-April 16, 2007

Mary Virginia Phillips, 73, Greencastle, died Monday at her residence.

Born in Greencastle, she was the daughter of Oscar and Ruby (Hill) King.

She was a member of the Family of God Church in Roachdale, and lifetime member of the Church of God, where she taught Sunday school classes. She retired from Harmless Laundromat.

She married Emerson E. Phillips on Jan. 29, 1953. He survives.

Also surviving are children Pastor Larry Phillips and wife Edie, Pastor Ernie Phillips and wife Debby, Brenda Covert and husband Terry, James Phillips and wife Joyce, Kathy Caldwell and husband Loren, Michael Phillips and wife Cheryl, and Bradley Phillips and wife Ruth; five brothers, Oscar, Don, Harvey, Bob and Gary; five sisters, Shirley, Deannie, Pat, Sharon and Sue; 29 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Edgar Lee, Frank and Jerry, and sister Karen Jean.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Herman Gorham officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
