City officials to discuss fire protection Tuesday

Fire protection will be the topic of a special joint meeting of the Greencastle City Council, Board of Works and Greencastle Township Advisory Board this week.

The public meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the conference room at the Greencastle Fire Station.

On the docket for the evening will be a presentation by Greencastle Fire Chief Bill Newgent, to be followed by a discussion on the current financial status of the fire department and overall funding.

Also to be discussed will be capital projects for the fire department, including information about the department's 1986 Sutphen aerial truck, 1971 Mack fire engine and other capital needs.

The meeting will conclude with a discussion about financial strategy for future investments between the city and the township.
