GHS defeats Monrovia

The Greencastle baseball team run-ruled the Monrovia Bulldogs, 11-1, Tuesday night at home.

For the second night in a row, Greencastle saw hitters come up big and collect two doubles and two triples.

Greencastle scored a monster eight runs in the first inning to put the Bulldogs on the ropes.

At the plate, Derrik Patterson was 3-for-4, almost hitting for the cycle, collecting a single, double and a triple. Jeremy Hayden was 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored.

Kendall Faust went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Austin Miller's lone hit on the night was a double.

Erick Burgeson took the mound for the Tiger Cubs, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out nine.

Greencastle is 8-3 on the season and looks to take down Owen Valley Thursday night at home.

Cougars fall to Cadets

BAINBRIDGE -- The North Putnam Cougars lost to the Cascade Cadets, 9-2, Tuesday night at home.

The Cougars struggled on the night, with no player collecting multiple hits.

"We were flat at the plate tonight," NPHS coach Norm Fish said. "Mink pitched a good game, and Cascade hit the ball well."

North also struggled on the mound as Brian Blaydes went three innings, allowing four runs and four hits. Brayden Dahlstrom allowed five runs on three hits in four innings.

"We got outplayed on the mound and at the plate," Fish said. "We need to get a little sharper."

North Putnam will travel to Southmont today at 6 p.m.

Eagles down Turkey Run

The South Putnam baseball team won a close game Tuesday night against Turkey Run at home. The Eagles walked away with a 6-5 win, with some fourth inning heroics.

South had the lead early in the game but lost it in the top of the fourth, as Turkey Run took a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Drew Cash reached on an error and Derek Dean grabbed a base hit. Adam Hammond drew a walk to load the bases for the Eagles.

Brad Eickhoff ripped a hit to score two runs and give the lead back to the Eagles for good.

Brice Steinbaker pitched a complete game and gained the victory.

South will host North Vermillion Saturday at 10 a.m.

Speedway hands Clovers loss

SPEEDWAY -- The Speedway Sparkplugs handed visiting Cloverdale a 12-5 loss Tuesday night.

Cloverdale's top four hitters went 8-for-13 and accounted for all of the Clovers RBI.

Brandon Mescall was 3-for-4 with one RBI and Chad Cummings was 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Cody Nees came up huge, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Josh Flory was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Cloverdale struggled on the mound, as Nees only managed one and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on three hits and walked six. Cummings pitched four and one-third, throwing for six hits, five runs, two walks and three strikeouts.

Cloverdale also struggled in the field, as they committed eight errors on the night.

Cloverdale will host White River Valley tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
