BRAZIL -- The South Putnam boys' golf team handed the Cascade Cadets a 21 stroke loss Thursday night at home, 155-176. The win moved the Eagles record to 7-5 on the season.

"This was our biggest win of the year," SPHS coach Scott Ricke said. "Cascade beat us in the conference tournament two weeks ago by over 20 strokes.

Ricke also seemed to have a little premonition before the match that centered around one of his senior golfers.

"I walked up to Ben (Anderson) on the putting green before the meet and pointed at him and said, 'Thirty six, that's what you're going to shoot today,'" Ricke said. "Ben walked up to the second to last hole three-over par and came back to the clubhouse with a big grin after going birdie, birdie for his 36."

Besides Anderson, Cory Welty and Trea Boyce stepped up big for the Eagles and helped the team post their 155, which broke the school-record.

"Our three seniors stepped up in a big way on their last home meet by breaking our own school-record from ten days ago," Ricke said.

"Trea and Cory both posted great numbers that were better than Cascade's number one golfer," Ricke added.

South's Tyler Newby took medalist honors with a 35 and Jon Weaver's 41 helped motor the Eagles past the Cadets.

"I'm proud of all the guys' effort this year," Ricke commented. "They have improved so much and are playing some their best golf at the time of year the we need it."

Ricke hopes the team can continue to play with the emotion and focus they've displayed in recent matches as South will take on the Tiger Cubs Wednesday at 2 p.m.
