Opal M. Burk Eglen, 84, Brazil, formerly of Greencastle, died Sunday.

Born in Owen County, she was the daughter of Otis and Laurie (Aubery) Hill.

She retired from DePauw University in 1993, where she had been a cook for more than 42 years, most recently at Rector Hall.

She was a long-time member of the Greencastle Church of God.

Survivors include five sons, Ronald E. Denny and wife Sharon, Indianapolis, James J. Denny and wife Theresa, Brazil, Steve D. Burk and wife Debra, Reelsville, William M. Burk and wife Judy, Science Hill, Ky., and Larry A. Burk and wife Alice, Brazil; two daughters, Marcia F. Carter and husband Rick, Brazil, and Sandra E. Silcox and husband John, Indianapolis; 30 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husbands William A. Burk and Raymond Eglen, her parents, and five sisters.

Services will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Robert Stultz officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
