Robbery leads to Putnam crash

Friday, July 20, 2007

A man armed with a handgun robbed a Boone County bank in Lizton Thursday night and fled to Putnam County where he caused a crash and escaped.

Police are searching for the man who entered the State Bank of Lizton around 5 p.m. while customers were still inside. One of those customers called the police and reported the crime. The man then led several agencies including Putnam County Deputies, Roachdale Town Marshal Mike Mahoy and an excise officer on a chase before getting away.

Boone County Sheriff Ken Campbell reported that during the chase, the robber who was driving a white Dodge Stratus, displayed a hand gun to the police who were pursuing him.

Putnam County Sheriff deputies never had a visual on the suspect but were following the Boone County Sheriff who crashed near the intersection of Ind. 236 and U.S. 231 west of Roachdale near the Putnam-Montgomery County Line.

The deputy involved in the accident was treated and released from the hospital.

Investigators are looking for a white Dodge Stratus with front end damage.

Anyone with information about this vehicle and it's driver should call the Putnam County Sheriff's Department at (765) 653-3211 or the Boone County Sheriff's Department at (765) 482-1412.
