CLAYTON -- The Cloverdale volleyball team traveled to Cascade and picked up a season-opening win over Cascade Thursday night, 25-14, 25-20, 12-25, 25-14. The Clovers are 1-0 and as well as 1-0 in the WCC.

"I thought we played well for our first match of the season, and this is Cascade's third match this week," Clovers' coach Kathy Moore said.

Kristin McCammon led the Clovers with 25 points. She was followed by Alesha Evans with 12 points, Ashley Koosman with 11 and Allie Franklin with nine.

Koosman, McCammon and Kaileigh Sparks each had two aces.

Koosman led the way in kills with eight, while McCammon had five.

Elizabeth Cheatham was the leader in blocks with eight, while Evans had seven.

Erica Lotz had six set assists while Maria Skiles and Sparks each had four.

Koosman had 22 digs, McCammon had 22 and Kristen Schroer had 10.

"It's great to start the season with a conference win, and getting a win at Cascade is important," Moore said. "Cascade Hustles well and played well against us.

"We open our home season matches hosting South Vermillion on Monday," Moore continued. "We last played them in the sectional championship last year."

The South Vermillion match will be 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The Cloverdale JV was also victorious, defeating Cascade 13-25, 25-15, 15-3 to move its record to 1-0. Leading scorers were Stacia Shepherd and Breegan Andersen.
