GHS golf falls to Terre Haute North

Tuesday, August 28, 2007

The Greencastle girls' golf team suffered through its worst match of the year Monday night at Windy Hill. The Tiger Cubs fell to Terre Haute North 234-250.

"That's by far our worst nine-hole score of the year," GHS coach Brad Kingma said. "We'd been steadily improving. This is a definite setback."

Greencastle's Kelsey Murtagh watches her chip fly toward the green in Monday's match with Terre Haute North at Windy Hill.

Kingma said his team had been lowering its scores in recent matches, so this was unexpected. The coach allowed that teams often have trouble with Monday matches, "but that doesn't explain this," he said.

Senior Dana Norman led the Tiger Cubs with a 56, followed closely by Chelsea Samuels' 58. Kelsey Murtagh and Ashlyn Archer rounded out the Tiger Cubs' scoring with matching 68s.

Terre Haute North's Danielle Rosselli was medalist with a 45.

"We just weren't swinging well," Kingma said. "We've just got to get back out there and start swinging."

There is little time for much work for GHS, as they travel to Clover Meadows to face WCC foes Cloverdale and Monrovia on Wednesday.

"We'll be out working hard (Tuesday), trying to get that feel back," Kingma said.

While the coach was obviously disappointed with the outcome, he remained philosophical, knowing every team has its ups and downs.

"This is disappointing, but you're going to have these," Kingma said. "Hopefully they got it out of their systems. Everyone played bad at the same time. I hope they come out and play great the next time."
