Tiger Cubs down Wildcats to put up second win of season

The Greencastle girls' volleyball teams picked up its second win of the season as it defeated South Vermillion 25-23, 25-22, and 25-14 Tuesday at home.

"I am thankful for this win against a possible sectional opponent," Tiger Cub head coach Trish Lowe said. "South Vermillion is much improved and we had to battle for the victory."

The Tiger Cubs got big performances from the trio of Kelsey Hennette, Olivia Miller and Kristen Flint.

"Olivia Miller was dominating at the net, with 20 kills and Kristen flint added 15 of her own. Kelsey Hennette had her season high assists with 34," Lowe commented.

Miller led GHS with 20 kills, 16 digs, and one stuff block. Hennette recorded 34 assists, 17 digs, one ace and one kill.

Kristen Flint contributed 15 kills, 17 digs and one ace, while Veronica Sawyer also came up big as she added nine digs, two aces and scored 15 points.

Brooke Lewis added one kill and 13 digs for the Tiger Cubs and Kayla Nobles had four kills and eight digs.

Sara Land recorded four kills, two digs, five assists and two stuff blocks, with Samantha Kuchler contributing two points and seven digs. Chelsea Samuels added one kill.

"We had some great blocking as a team and our digs were better," Lowe added. "We will still have to step up our game on Thursday against Cloverdale."

The Tiger Cubs will travel south to face Cloverdale at 6 p.m. Thursday.
