GHS runs at Ben Davis Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Greencastle girls' cross country team came up against some tough competition Tuesday at the Ben Davis Invitational. The difficulty of the meet showed as the Tiger Cubs finished 15th out of 16 teams.

"This was real tough competition -- seven teams were ranked in the top 25 in state rankings," said GHS coach Garry Anderson. "Several outstanding runners performed like the runners they are."

Thirteenth-ranked Noblesville won the event, besting fifth-rated Center Grove by five points.

Top finisher for GHS was Hannah Serlin (21:30) in 57th. Sara Culler was 74th. Laura Weatherford was 84th, followed by Kaitlyn Murtagh in 96th. Ivonne Martinez, Katie Trigg and Jessica Brown finished together in 107th, 108th and 109th.

Anderson was a bit disappointed in the finish, but remains upbeat as his team looks to make its stretch run.

"I just hoped we could have responded better," he said. "We are going to get better as we near the end of the season."

The GHS boys did not run in the event.
