Greencastle closes regular season with win

MONTEZUMA -- Greencastle volleyball closed the regular season 17-13 with a three-game win over Riverton Parke Thursday. The Tiger Cubs defeated the Panthers 25-16, 26-24, 25-23.

"This was a nice way to cap off our season," GHS coach Trish Lowe said. "The varsity got a great win to finish the season."

Kayla Nobles was a perfect 15-of-15 serving to lead the Cubs. Kristen Flint picked up 11 points. Veronica Sawyer had four aces.

At the net, Olivia Miller had 11 kills and eight blocks, including two stuffs. Flint was just behind with 10 kills, seven blocks and two stuffs.

Kelsey Hennette led GHS with 21 assists and 23 digs.

The junior varsity finished the season 10-11 with a 25-12, 25-6 win. Chelsea Samuels had seven kills and six aces. Mallory Miller had 12 assists while Kelsey Grzesiek contributed nine digs.

"The JV team has improved so much and we are so proud of them," Lowe said. "We are looking for great things from them for the future."

It is now on to sectional play for the varsity.

"We are looking forward to starting the sectionals on Tuesday," Lowe said.

GHS will travel to Sullivan to take on Edgewood on Tuesday.
