Tigers Shut Out Rhodes; Marks Ties SCAC Record, Dick throws for 174

Memphis, Tenn. - The DePauw defense recorded its first shutout in two years and Jeremiah Marks rushed for three touchdowns to tie the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference scoring record as the Tigers took a 21-0 victory at Rhodes.

DePauw improved to 7-2 with its third straight win and finished SCAC play at 5-2, while the Lynx dropped to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the SCAC.

"Our defense played tremendous football today," head coach Matt Walker said of DePauw's first shutout since a 34-0 win at Sewanee in 2005.

The Tigers scored on their second possession after Jevon Pruitt returned a Rhodes punt 40 yards to the Lynx 5. On the second play from scrimmage, Marks put the Tigers up 7-0 with a 2-yard run.

On the ensuing possession, Rhodes drove to the DePauw 23, but Chris Catalanotto missed a 40-yard field goal with 4:15 left in the first. Early in the second Brendand Smith missed a 37-yard field goal try for the Tigers after DePauw drove inside the Rhodes red zone.

Midway through the second, DePauw droved to the Rhodes 16, but Spud Dick's keeper on fourth was short of a first down. The Lynx then drove to the Tigers' 26, but an incomplete pass gave the ball back to the Tigers.

The Tigers' second score was set up after Rhodes fumbled Adam Hill's punt and the Tigers reccovered at the Lynx 16. Marks rushed in from the 1 to make it 14-0 with 5:46 left in the third.

Marks then made it 21-0 with his third score of the day as he rushed from two yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter. The touchdown lifted his career total to 54 touchdowns and 324 points which tied Centre's Tim McDaniel (1988-91) for the all-time SCAC record in both categories.

The Tigers outgained Rhodes 319-175 including a 145-88 margin on the ground. Marks finished with 87 yards in 27 carries, while Curtis Moore added 50 yards in 14 tries.

Dick completed 19 of 34 passes for 174 yards with six going to Alex Koors.

Charles Hoggard led Rhodes with 59 rushing yards in 19 tries, while quarterback Matt Ungashick complted 7 of 20 for 87 yards.

J.J. Costello and Jevon Pruitt each finished with six tackles and Grant Wright led the way with 2.5 tackles for loss. Tarren Collins recorded DePauw's only interception in the win. Alex Foti and Mason Mosby eah had 15 tackes for the Lynx and Chip Hilley had an interception.

DePauw wraps up the season next Saturday when they host Wabash in the 114th gridiron meeting and 76th for possession of the Monon Bell.
