Putnam County Jail

Five people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* Jackie Lee Hammer, 24, Greencastle, was booked in at 3:18 a.m. Sunday for public intoxication and disorderly conduct. She was released on her own recognizance at 12:11 p.m.

* Mitchell Franklin Lutz, 21, Bloomington, was booked in at 5:39 a.m. Sunday for trespass, theft and public intoxication. He was arrested by Greencastle Officer Matthew.

* Ronald Allen Hawk, 39, Indianapolis, was booked in at 11:18 a.m. Monday on a petition to revoke probation. He was arrested at PCJ.

* James Martino Patton, 22, Indianapolis, was booked in at 11:30 a.m. Monday for driving while suspended. He was arrested at PCJ.

* Eric Carnell, 49, Indianapolis, was booked in at 1:03 p.m. Monday on a warrant. He was arrested by Trooper Dujuan McFadden.

Sheriff's Dept.

Several accidents were investigated by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department recently.

* At 11:34 p.m. Thursday, a car hit a deer on Ind. 240 near CR 650 East.

Deputy Craig Sibbitt reported that Chrystal D. Cook, 36, 621 S. CR 725 West, Greencastle, was driving a 2003 Pontiac west when the large deer ran into the road and the car was unable to avoid the animal.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 1:15 a.m. Monday, a car ran off Manhattan Road when the driver tried to avoid a deer.

Sgt. Tom Helmer reported that Samantha N. Hanners, 26, 3081 W. Southern Heights Court, Greencastle, was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer when she swerved to avoid the deer. The car failed to negotiate a curve and struck a mailbox, bush and utility pole guy wire. No one was injured.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

* At 2:40 p.m. Friday, two vehicles collided on U.S. 231 at CR 285 South.

Deputy Doug Nally reported that B. Scott Wilkerson, 40, Fishers, had slowed looking for an address to make a delivery in a 2004 Ford van and he pulled out onto the road when his van was struck in the passenger side by a car.

Geraldine F. Carnes, 77, Gosport, said she thought the truck was turning so she drove around him when the van moved available and her 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo collided with the van.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

* At 6:24 p.m. Friday, a car hit a deer on U.s. 40.

Reserve Deputy Joe Tesmer reported that Allison J. Lee, 42, Brazil, was driving east in a 2003 Dodge Neon when the animal ran in front of her and she could not avoid it.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 7 a.m. Monday, a car hit a deer on Ind. 240 near CR 500 East.

Lt. Danny Wallace reported that Mildred L. Meehan, 61, 1283 Kersey lane, Greencastle, was driving east in a 2005 Toyota Camry when a deer ran in front of the car and she was unable to avoid the animal.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

* At 11:45 a.m. Sunday, two vehicles collided at a bridge on CR 25 South at CR 175 West.

Lt. Danny Wallace reported that Amber Thompson, 21, 2917 W. CR 25 North, Greencastle, was driving south in a 1998 Dodge when she was exiting the bridge and an oncoming vehicle did not stop and collided with her.

Jennifer Eller, 37, 809 N. CR 575 West, Greencastle, said she was driving north in a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass and did not see the other vehicle.

* At 10:10 p.m. Sunday, a car hit a deer on U.S, 40.

Sgt. Tom Helmer reported that Benjamin A. Thomas, 36, Brazil, was driving west on 2000 Buick Century when the deer ran in front of his car near CR 75 West.

Damage was estimated at $750-$1,000.

Greencastle Fire Dept.

The Greencastle Fire Department made several runs recently

On Friday:

* At 7:20 p.m., firefighters were called to 402 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. They found no problem and returned at 7:44 p.m.

* At 10:58 p.m., crews responded to 1542 Bloomington St. for a fire alarm. They found the alarm to be malfunctioning and returned at 11:41 p.m.

On Saturday:

* At 1:22 a.m., firefighters were called to 905 S. College Ave. for a fire alarm. They found nothing and cleared at 1:29 a.m.

* At 6:45 a.m., crews were called to the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department station house to assist firefighters with a wreck on Interstate 70. They were back on base at 6:58 a.m.

* At 10:36 a.m., firefighters were called to 1 Taylor Place for a fire alarm. They found that burning incense had set off the alarm and returned at 10:51 a.m.

* At 5:17 p.m., crews were dispatched to the intersection of Round Barn Road and Ridgeland Road, to assist with a car crash. However, they were told to disregard the call and returned at 5:23 p.m.

* At 5:58 p.m., firefighters were called to 500 S. Madison St. for an unauthorized fire. They extinguished the fire and were back on base at 6:28 p.m.

On Sunday:

* At 1:54 a.m., crews were dispatched to 807 S. College Ave. for a fire alarm. They learned that someone had pulled the alarm on the first floor of the building, but found no fire. They returned at 2:09 a.m.

* At 4:47 p.m., firefighters were called to 315 E. Hannah St. for a fire alarm. They found no fire and returned at 4:59 p.m.

On Monday:

* At 3:20 p.m., crews were dispatched to 6302 E. County Road 100 N. to assist Fillmore Fire Department on a pipe fire at the Dixie Chopper Plant. They returned at 4:21 p.m.

On Tuesday:

* At 1:56 a.m. crews were dispatched to Humbert Hall at 208 S. Olive St. to investigate the odor of burned popcorn. They were released at 2:10 a.m.

* At 11:40 a.m. crews were dispatched to 206 N. Indiana St. Officials assisted Putnam County Operation Life and were released at 11:49 a.m.
