GMS 8th graders split with Bruins

The Greencastle boys' eighth-grade basketball team couldn't overcome a tough first quarter and fell to Tri-West 50-33 Thursday.

The Tiger Cubs were outscored 20-0 in the opening quarter but rebounded to out pace the Bruins 26-14 over the next two quarters to pull within eight points after three. Tri-West held off the Tiger Cub charge and sealed the victory with a 16 point fourth quarter.

Nick Hutcheson lead Greencastle with 23, with Dustin Law adding six points and Brad Haussin with four.

In B team action, Greencastle lost to the Bruins 35-22.

GMS was down 20-5 at the half but managed to put together a solid fourth quarter by outscoring the Bruins 12-8.

The Tiger Cubs had a balanced attack on the night with Jesse Tesmer scoring six points, Nolan Sappenfield added five and Kaden Faust contributed four. Andy Bell, Brad Boyers, Michael Phillips and A.J. Gerard all added two points each.

The GMS squads will host Tuttle (Crawfordsville) at 5:30 p.m. Monday
