Chamber seeks 'Citizen' nominations

The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is now accepting nominations for the 2007 "Citizen of the Year" Award.

The award has been presented by the Chamber to some of Putnam County's finest since 1982.

The Chamber is seeking that special individual, who is dedicated to the success of Putnam County, to receive this prestigious award. The selection is based upon the degree to which the individual has made Putnam County a better community in which to live, work and raise a family.

The 2007 winner will succeed Dr. Donald "Doc" Brattain, who was the 2006 winner. Other previous winners have been Hazel Day Longden, the inaugural recipient in l982, Hubert Clodfelter in 1983, Howard Williams in 1984, Bessie Rector in 1985, Mace Aker in 1986, Bobby G. Albright in 1987, Gerald E. Warren in1988, David Barr in 1989, Jim Harris in 1990, Dr. James Johnson in 1991, Charles Chandler in1992, Bob Evans in 1993, Julia "Judy" Johnson in 1994, Jerald D. Calbert in 1995, Harold Spicer in 1996, Jinsie Bingham in 1997, Dave Young in 1998, Barbara Lane in 1999, Ellen Sedlack in 2000, the trio of Lynn Wilson, Denise Sigworth and Rachel Seipel in 2001, Mike Rokicki in 2002, Joy Marley in 2003, Charles Miles in 2004, and Judge Sally Gray in 2005.

Nominees must:

* Be a resident of Putnam County for five or more years.

* Have given extended service to the county in more than one area.

Neither the nominees nor the individuals making the nominations have to be members of the Chamber of Commerce. Anyone wishing to make a nomination is encouraged to do so by the end of the business day on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008.

Nomination forms can be obtained from the Chamber office or placed on a single, standard sheet of plain paper. Nominations should include the nominee's name, address and reason in detail for their nomination.

The Chamber also needs the name, address and phone number of the person or persons making the nomination. Entries may be mailed or hand delivered to the Chamber of Commerce office at 16 S. Jackson St., Greencastle. They will not accept nominations over the phone, by word of mouth or via e-mail.

The 2007 Citizen of the Year will be announced at the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008.
