Street to close for tree removal

House at 311 W. Walnut St.

A tree fell on a house at 311 W. Walnut St. Saturday afternoon, damaging the east side of the gray frame structure.

Paul Champion and his family were at home with the neighbor's tree fell, and he said they felt the shudder and heard the crash as the tree broke a window, knocked off gutters and an overhang, poked holes in the roof and put cracks in the wall. No one was hurt.

A large crane will be brought in Tuesday morning to lift the tree off the house. That could necessitate the closing of West Walnut Street between Market and Madison streets for a few hours, Greencastle Director of Public Works Paul Wilson told the BannerGraphic. Motorists will be directed to Washington Street to bypass the scene.
