Cougar freshmen lose to Rox

BAINBRIDGE -- The North Putnam freshman boys' basketball team lost an extremely low-scoring affair to the Rockville C team Wednesday, 14-13.

Cougar coach Steve Peek told the team before the game he wanted them to hold Rockville to 16 points. He never thought they would achieve the goal and still lose the game.

"We lost a game in which we gave up four field goals," Peek said. "They played hard. You have to play hard to hold a team to that."

Tommy Welch led North with 10 points. Jacob Lucas got on the board with three.

Although the Cougars drove to the basket, they did not get the calls from the officials, seeing the Rox shoot 16 free throws while they shot just three.

At North Putnam

Rockville 1 6 4 3 -- 14

North Putnam 4 2 7 0 -- 13

North Putnam -- Welch 10, Lucas 3.

Next game -- North Putnam visits Cloverdale at 6 p.m. Monday.
