Fair board selects Jessop Amusements

Friday, February 1, 2008

In the first board meeting of 2008 Monday evening, the Putnam County Fair and 4-H Club Association announced that Jessop Amusements has been selected to provide the carnival portion of the 2008 Putnam County Fair.

President Gene Grable told the board that Jessop will be bringing back some of the carnival landmarks that the fair had been missing over the past few years, including the ferris wheel.

Grable went on to say that Jessop had requested the site for the carnival be relocated to the present location of the industrial tent, because of safety concerns over the levelness of the grounds at the current carnival site.

After a considerable amount of deliberation by the board, a motion to relocate the carnival site was tabled. Fair entertainment was also looked at by the board members.

It was reported that the cost of holding a rodeo for the fair would range from $16,000 to $1,700 with $7,500 of that total to be paid up front.

In other business:

* Grable announced that construction has begun on the Verizon tower. A proposed sound system for the inside arena will cost approximately $4,000. Initial discussions gave begun regarding a closed-circuit TV system for the fairgrounds.

The board meets on the fourth Monday of each month.

  • Please do not put the carnival that close to our 4-H Barns, and our Children. How about putting it uptown on the square. I think that would be far enough away!!!
