Greencastle junior varsity captures Putnam County Championship

On Feb. 9, the Greencastle boys' junior varsity team captured the Putnam County championship defeating North Putnam 39-29.

After trailing after the first quarter, Greencastle entered the half up one, 20-19. The Tiger Cubs held to a 27-25 lead entering the fourth and held the Cougars to a four-point fourth to capture the championship.

Jordan Hickam led the Tiger Cubs with 15 points with Kyle Harlan added nine points. Graham Shuee chipped in eight points; Keith Carr added four points and Spencer Moore scored three in the win.

The Cougars were led by Jacob Lasiter with 12 points and Garrett Porter chipped in eight points. Wes Bryant contributed six points and Travis Franklin added three points.

Greencastle reached the final by downing South Putnam 50-43. Hickam led Greencastle with 18 points. Carr added 12 points, while Spencer Moore scored nine, Harlan scored six and Shuee added five.

Grant Zimmerman was South Putnam's leading scorer with 16 points with Brayden Freeman and Spencer Smith contributing seven points each. Derek Dean chipped in six, Dean Varvel added five and Seth Arnold recorded two points.
