Tiger Softball sweeps SCAC weekly honors again

Saturday, March 22, 2008

For the third time in four weeks, the sixth-ranked Tigers are represented by both the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Offensive Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week.

For games played from March 10-16, Carolyn Bartlett shared the offensive honors with Sam Hill of Millsaps while Megan Soultz shared top pitcher honors with Millsaps' Kasey Thibobeaux. The honor was the third of the season for Soultz.

Bartlett batted .579 (11-19) with four runs scored and nine driven in as the Tigers went 7-0 on the week--including a perfect 5-0 mark against SCAC West opponents at Ridgeland, Miss. She had two doubles and a triple among her 11 hits and also stole a base.

Soultz was a perfect 7-0 during the week, pitching 40.0 innings and allowed just eight earned runs to post an ERA of 1.40. She allowed only 30 hits in the seven games and struck out 40 batters while walking just four.

Soultz allowed no runs over her last 22 innings of the week and wrapped up the week with a no-hit win over Austin for her second no-hitter of the season and third of her career. Soultz is now 13-1 on the season with an ERA of 1.05.

The Tigers begin competition in the Gene Cusic Classic on Monday.
