DPU softball improves to 17-1 with two wins
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Fifth-ranked DePauw softball improved to 17-1 and extended its win streak to 17 with a pair of shutout wins at the Gene Cusic Classic over Fredonia State and Wisconsin-Whitewater by scores of 1-0 and 2-0, respectively. The Tigers also extended their streak of consecutive shutout innings to 51 1/3.
In the Fredonia State win, Megan Soultz allowed just a one-out single in the first before retiring the final 20 batters in improving to 16-1. She struck out nine in the victory.
DePauw's lone run came in the first as Chelsy Patterson led off with a single, moved to second on Brianne Weeks' sacrifice bunt and to third on Kaitlyn Davitt's infield single. After Davitt stole second and Rachel Gill walked, Ashlee Anton delivered a run-scoring single.
Patteson and Emma Minx each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Kristy Sheridan had Fredonia State's lone hit.
