  • When I talk with people in Brazil they have similar complaints with their roads and higher taxes and sewage rates. The difference is that Mayor Michael has real changes to show for those dollars. The waste-water treatment facility that was finished under her term is not only instrumental to providing the community with a safe, clean way to dispose of waste and sewage, but it is a necessary part of the infrastructure required for business-owners to locate their operations, which in turn, creates jobs. There were two companies that went bankrupt while she was Mayor, but it's hardly realistic to presume that fault lies with the Mayor alone. I would guess if you take a look at their books, their problems predate her term as Mayor. The industrial sector expanded 10 times while she was Mayor and replaced many of those jobs. She worked with the legislature to get funding for an $8.5 Ivy Tech campus that just broke ground in Greencastle. Like DePauw, this will bring more people into the community and ensure further economic development for the area while creating jobs. I don't know any community that says their roads are great. Local government has limited funds that they receive from the state to pay for roads and most of them will tell you it isn't enough. Nancy did a lot of great things for Greencastle. I don't believe she would have been elected for the job 3 times if she hadn't.
