Mason earns spot in bowling championship

Local youth bowler Janelle Mason bowled a 1,430 at the Expo Bowl in Indianapolis. She qualifies to compete this July in the National Pepsi USBC Championship in Detroit.

A Greencastle youth bowler and seventh grade student at GMS, Janelle Mason, earned one of two spots available in the 12 and over female division in the Pepsi State qualifier this month. Mason had a score of 1,430 after bowling six games at Expo Bowl in Indianapolis. Janelle won a $500 college scholarship in the State competition.

She is on a roll this season as she was awarded Most Improved Female bowler in her 2007-08 GGUSBC youth league at Alex Alleys last month during the spring awards banquet.

Stone Hyten, another Greencastle youth bowler, earned a $300 scholarship in the State competition in the 11 and under male division. The 11 and under divisions do not advance to the National Competition. Hyten rolled three games for a final score of 730. He was also awarded Most Improved Male bowler in his 2007-08 GGUSBC youth league at Alex Alleys as well.
