Eleven youth from Putnam County will bowl Sunday in the finals of the first-ever Prince and Princess Tournament, sponsored by the Indiana State United States Bowling Congress Youth Association.

Putnam County finalists are Brittney Friars, Megan Friars, Britany Doolin, Tyler Nield, Luke Brotherton, Stone Hyten, Blake Doolin, Austin Alspaugh, Reggie Alex, Anthony Coosner and Michael Rumley. The group ranges in age from 9 to 18.

There are 16 boys and 16 girls bowling in the finals, which will be held in Merrillville.

"This is a new tournament that was held for the youth who bowled in the State Youth Tournament and carried an average of 174 or below," said Lucille Liebert, manager of the Greater Greencastle United States Bowling Congress Youth Association.

Finalists bowl five games. The top five bowlers from those games will bowl once more to determine winners.

"Each of the youngsters who qualified for this final round will earn at least a $25 scholarship," Liebert said. "The top winner will receive a $250 scholarship."

Liebert was proud that 11 of the 32 finalists came from her league.

"If you know any of these young people, give them a call and wish them luck," she said.
