BARBER

The members of Peace Lutheran Church will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pastor Alan J. Barber's ordination and installation as their pastor in a special service Sunday, July 13.

Pastor Barber graduated from Concordia Seminary, Fort Wayne, after leaving his career as an attorney in Michigan. His wife, Diane, of 38 years and eldest son David reside in Greencastle, and his youngest son Jonathan lives in Plainfield while attending college.

When Pastor Barber began his service in Putnam County 25 years ago at Peace, he preached in an un-air conditioned building at 218 Bloomington St to about 50 people.

Within ten years, the congregation grew to 264 people, they were able to add not only air conditioning and a Schantz pipe organ, but also an educational wing which schooled 65 preschoolers. In the years following, the preschool developed into a kindergarten and elementary school accommodating children as old as 6th grade.

In November of 2005, Pastor Barber blessed the ground breaking for a new building located at 1421 S Bloomington St. Through the faith of the congregation at Peace Lutheran and the leadership of Pastor Barber, the church has been able to minister to countless families by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and by showing care and compassion in times of need.

Members and friends of the congregation are invited to join us in worship this Sunday at either the 8 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. service. Peace also offers Sunday school and adult Bible class at 9 a.m.
