DPU duo in Parkfest spotlight

Sunday, July 13, 2008

Parkfest this Tuesday will spotlight two DePauw professors well-known in the Greencastle music scene.

Ron Dye and Istvan Csicsery-Ronay paired up as a guitar/singing duo called Mongrel Dogs. The pair has been playing together for over three years and has been known to frequent local places with open mic nights.

Ron Dye also used to host open mic night at the Gathering Grounds, Sugar Moon and The Rock House. He still hosts at The Blue Door Café from time to time.

"Ron has been an important fixture in the local music scene for many years," Istvan said.

Istvan also plays in the acoustic world-music band Wabi Sabi that hails from Bloomington.

In their one-hour set, they will be playing from their big repertoire of acoustic songs from many sources. A wonderful melding of 1920's style blue's, country-western and folk with a touch of jazz, this is a pairing worth the trip to Robe Ann Park at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
