Man airlifted from Cataract Lake

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Cloverdale Twp. Volunteer Fire Department (CTVFD) responded to an injured person in Cataract Lake Sunday afternoon.

When CVFD arrived, they had to take their pontoon boat out due to the 32-year-old Indianapolis man still being in the water. They were able to stabilize him on a backboard while he was still in water.

According to CVFD Chief Kerry Shepard, "He had no cuts on him, but he couldn't feel anything from his waste down."

The man -- who's name was not released to the Banner Graphic -- was life-lined to Wishard Memorial Hospital. Shepard said that the man was alert and talking with the emergency personnel.

The accident occurred at Cataract Lake on the border of Putnam and Owen counties. According to Shepard, it is unclear what exactly happened causing the accident due to the man being in very deep water with no cuts on him.

Also responding was an officer from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Operation Life. The DNR officer was not available for comment though.
