ROACHDALE -- The North Putnam Lady Cougars were not able to overcome the Tri-West Lady Bruins on the court Tuesday night.

Varsity starters for the North Putnam were seniors Taylor Alles, Logan Doyle, and Casey Preecs; juniors Shannon Brock, Megan Grey, and Caryle McGaughey.

In the first game, the Lady Cougars made numerous mistakes that allowed Tri-West to take an early lead. Doyle was a very important part of the defensive action for North Putnam. Sophomore Megan Robinson was also a very important part of defense by being effective at the net. However, the Lady Cougars were not able to overcome the Lady Bruins and lost the game 25-10.

In the second game, the Lady Cougars were unable to shake the effects of the first game and missed many scoring opportunities and therefore, the Lady Bruins were able to develop an early lead that became significant as the game went on. The Lady Cougars tried to do anything and everything to keep up but there was no stopping the Lady Bruins. They won the game 25-7.

"Logan led us in serves. Carlye did a pretty good job receiving. Megan is really learning how to play the game all the way around. Being our only setter and in her first varsity season, she is doing really well" said Cougar head coach Jill Schreiber.

The third game was the best for the Lady Cougars. They came out looking alive and playing like a team more than in the first two games. Alles and Doyle were very effective at the net with numerous blocks and kills. The Lady Cougars did their best to keep the Lady Bruins' lead to a minimum by playing hard, communicating well, and going for every ball that came at them. However, Tri-West was able to capitalize on the mistakes that North Putnam made and extended their lead making it impossible for North Putnam to catch up. Tri-West won the match 25-17.

Schreiber was frustrated with the way her team played but has hope for the rest of the season. "We struggled mentally. We're having trouble believing in ourselves, having the confidence that we are good enough to play the way that we want and know how. We are missing serves that we shouldn't be missing and not moving forward like I would like us to be. We are young, we only have three returning varsity players but I have no doubt that we will be back where we need to be."
