Clovers defeat Warriors in three games

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale volleyball team pushed its season record to 6-2 on Tuesday, defeating Turkey Run in straight games, 25-19, 25-14, 26-24.

"We played well tonight," said Clover coach Kathy Moore. "At times we really needed to speed the game up and force our opponents to play our speed. We play better when the game is quick; it's more our style of play."

Whitney Bond led CHS with seven kills, while Maria Skiles set her teammates up with 13 assists. Alesha Evans led the service game with 11 points, and Kristin McCammon added three aces.

McCammon was also the defensive leader with 30 digs. Elizabeth Cheatham had eight blocks and two stuffs.

The two-game lead in the match was nice for the Clovers, as Moore was able to change her lineup some. However, she added that the team has to keep control in those situations

"I was able give some players on the bench some time in the third game and it almost got away from us," Moore said. "We have to learn to keep our focus and push points all the way to the end."

The Clover JV fell to the Warriors 25-16, 24-25, 15-13, dropping its record to 2-3.

Cloverdale visits Greencastle in a county matchup at 6 p.m. today.
