Tiger Cubs fall to Bruins in three games

LIZTON -- It's been a rough season for Greencastle volleyball.

The Tiger Cubs (2-11, 0-2 WCC) battled the Bruins of Tri-West Thursday, but came up short, falling in three games. GHS fell 25-14, 25-7 and 25-15.

"This was another tough loss for the Tiger Cubs," GHS head coach Trish Lowe said. "Losing is never easy and I hope it never gets that way."

Brooke Lewis helped power the Tiger Cubs offense with 13 digs, 10 spikes, three kills and went 4-for-4 serving. Kayla Nobles also had a strong game with 10 digs, nine spikes and was 5-for-5 serving.

Mallory Miller contributed seven digs, three blocks, 10 assists, one stuff block and was 6-for-6 serving. She also recorded 59 sets on the night. Jordyn Lewis added nine digs, two attacks, two kills, was 8-or-8 serving and had four points.

Greencastle also got a strong performance from Braden Amis who had eight attacks, three kills, five blocks, one dig and one ace. She was also 7-for-7 serving. Jessie Bennett added 10 attacks, three blocks, two kills, one dig, one ace and two points, while Kelsey Grzesiek added five digs and Brooke Buckner added three digs and one point.

The Tiger Cubs now fix their sights on the Putnam County Tournament this Saturday and Lowe and the Tiger Cubs have no plans of going down quietly.

"We still have a little fight left," Lowe commented.

The Greencastle junior varsity also fell to Tri-West 25-12 and 25-5. The loss drops the junior varsity to 0-10 on the season.

Both Greencastle squads will be competing at the Putnam County tournament at North Putnam beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.
