EMINENCE -- The South Putnam volleyball team picked up a five-game victory over Eminence Thursday night, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 17-25 and 15-7.

While Eagle coach Jill Newton was pleased to have a victory to even the team's record at 5-5, she thought her team could have played much better and taken care of business sooner.

"I'm glad that we won tonight; however, the match should have easily been won in three games instead of dragging out to five," Newton said. "At times we looked really good and really attacked the ball; other times we just sat back on our heels an let Eminence take contral.

"Oceaia Boetjer and Emily Dabkoski both played really well tonight. I also thought Brooke Boetjer had a really good night on the net," Newton said.

Oceaia Boetjer led the Eagles' serving with 22 points and seven aces. Dabkowski and Kaleigh Miller each had 14 assists. Brooke Boetjer led the way with 15 kills.

"Katelyn Sibbitt played a good game in the back row. She led us tonight in digs," Newton commented.

Sibbitt had 13 digs, and Ashley Wombles had six blocks.

The coach says her team needs to develop more consistency ss they prepare for today's Putnam County Tournament at North Putnam and the rest of the season.

"If we want to continue to win, we need to stay up the entire game and not let our guard down," Newton said.

The Eagle JV won in two games Thursday to remain undefeated on the year.

South Putnam plays Cloverdale in the opening round of the Putnam County Tournament at 10:30 a.m. today.
