DPU women's teams pick up wins

Field hockey

DePauw matched a season-high with five goals and extended its win streak to five straight with a 5-1 win over visiting Oberlin. The Tigers improved to 10-2 with the win and finished the home portion of their season with a 6-1 record at McKeen Field. The Yeowomen dropped to 1-13 with the loss.

DePauw's Carolyn Mueller put the Tigers on the board first with an assit from Sarah Riffle just 5:51 into the contest. Oberlin's Emily Whitaker knotted the score at 1-1 at 11:32 on Nuni Montaigne's assist. Katie Sowar delivered what would be the game-winning goal at 22:48 on Mueller's assist.

Mueller scored her second goal at 39:52 before Kimberly Trainor made it 4-1 with Sowar's assist at 40:54. Meredith Ellis wrapped up the scoring at 49:47 on Mueller's second assist.

DePauw outshot Oberlin 23-5 and held a 13-5 edge in corners. DePauw's Liz Attewell recorded three saves in goal, while Oberlin's Manya Lulek finished with 18.

The Tigers return to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Friday, October 24, when they travel to Hendrix for a 7 p.m. CDT game.

Women's Golf

TUNICA, MISS -- The 11th-ranked Tigers wrapped up the fall portion of their season with a second-place performance at the Rhodes Collegiate Classic at the Tunica National Course. Birmingham-Southern won the tournament with a 619.

Nikki Garza paced the Tigers with a tie for 10th with a 164, while Taylor Beaty was tied for 13th at 167. Natalie Gough was 18th with a 170 followed by Annie Mail in a tie for 20th at 173 and Kelly Gaughn in a tie for 26th at 178.

Playing as individuals, Meagan Hayes shot a 176 to tie for 24th, whle Ali Rifkin tied for 29th with a 181. Birmingham-Southern's Gaukhar Amandossova was the medalist with a 151.
