NASHVILLE -- The Greencastle girls' basketball team opened its season in impressive fashion by defeating Brown County 58-35 on the road Saturday.

Becky Grivas was a big contributor for the Tiger Cubs ,recording a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Also scoring 14 was Mallory Miller, with Chelsea Samuels adding nine of her own.

The Tiger Cubs shot 55 percent from the floor, including 3-6 from beyond the arc and were 7-15 from the line. Greencastle held the Eagles to just 28 percent shooting from the field.

After allowing Brown County's Kammi Graber to put up some big points in the first half, Greencastle recovered defensively in the second half and shut the shooter down.

"We struggled in the first half with our man-to-man defense, but in the second half we did a great job in our match-up zone and stopped their leading scorer Graber," GHS head coach Glenn Hile said. "She had 12 points at the half and finished the game with 14."

Greencastle put 10 players on the court, nine of which put points on the board for the Tiger Cubs. Hile also noted that the GHS defensive pressure in the second half lead to easy buckets off the break.

Greencastle will host Southmont at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.
