Sheriff's Department

The following accidents were reported to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Rhoda Adam of Bainbridge was traveling north on U.S. 231 at 2:25 p.m. Nov. 6 when she approached a vehicle driven by Luke Gerhardt of Roachdale slowing for a vehicle to make a turn. Adam reported she braked but due to the slick road, she hit the rear of Gerhardt's vehicle. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Courtny Gibbs of Ossian reported to deputies a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction was in her lane causing her to run off the road. Gibb's vehicle struck a state owned fence and landed nose first in a ditch. Deputies ran Gibb's information. They were informed her license was suspended and plates were registered to Karen Dilcher. Gibb's stated Dilcher sold her the vehicle in March 2008. Gibbs could not provide insurance information for the vehicle to deputies. Steele's towing removed the vehicle from the ditch and it was held until proof of insurance and proper registration could be provided. Gibbs was cited for driving while suspended and operating without financial responsibility. There was an estimated $750 to $1,001 in damages. The accident occurred at 2:03 a.m. Nov. 13 on S.R. 243.

David Snellenbarger, Greencastle, was traveling north on U.S. 231 at 4:15 a.m. Monday when a large object entered the roadway. Snellenbarger reported he was given no time to react and hit the object, which turned out to be a horse. The horse rolled over the front of Snellenbarger's truck and landed in the bed of it. Snellenbarger was transported to Putnam County Hospital due to neck pain. Ron's Wrecker Service towed his truck. The owner of the horse was notified and took care of the horse later in the day. There was an estimated $5,001 to $10,000 in damages.
