Cox breaks record on opening day of bowling

The Putnam Co. Bowling started off its second season with another record setting day. Last year Michael Rumley shot a 277 game to open the season. This year Matthew Cox, a sophomore from Greencastle High School, shot a 279 to get things rolling.

The boys varsity competition saw Greencastle accumulate 36 points followed by South Putnam with 25 and North Putnam with 17. Cloverdale did not have any boys participating in Putnam Co. Bowling this year.

Top individual point winners were Matt Cox and Jacob Ensor from Greencastle with six points. Keven Crowe of North Putnam, Pat Allen and Travis Giannechini of South Putnam and Josh Chaney and Ray Stinson of Greencastle all had five points.

The boys bowled two games each. The high scores for the boys varsity were Cox with 492, Giannechini with 396, Ensor with 359, Stinson with 353, Haydon Rogers (Greencastle) with 346, and Tyler Watts (North Putnam) with 343.

In the Girl's' Varsity competition, Greencastle again led the charge with 28 points, North Putnam nine, South Putnam eight, and Cloverdale five.

Top individual point winners were Abby Coffin from Greencastle with six points, Shayna Wahl of Cloverdale, Shelbey Watts of North Putnam, Chelsay Dickerson, Channing Peters and Sarah Fenwick of Greencastle all scored five points each.

Top scorers for two games for the girls were Wahl with a 302, Peters with 274, Dickerson with 270, April Cain (Greencastle) with 260, and Coffin with 252.

Josh Lady from Greencastle walked away with the Open Tournament of Junior Varsity Bowlers title with a total of 379. The other top five were Cody Sheldon of Greencastle with 269, Johnny Hasselburg and Zach Navel of North Putnam with 215 and Aaron Long of North Putnam with 200.

The bowlers next competition will be December 4, 2008, at Alex Alleys
