Geneva Sims Dimitroff, 91, of Greencastle died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008.

Mrs. Dimitroff was born Feb. 26, 1917, in Clay County to George and Inis Reed Sims. She was a 1942 graduate of Indiana University School of Nursing.

After graduation, her entire graduating class enlisted in the U.S. Army. She served in England, was present in Normandy just after the invasion, was at the Battle of the Bulge, served at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. in the plastic surgery department and at Bruns Memorial Hospital in Santa Fe, N.M.

After retirement from the Army, she entered the USAF Reserve and retired as a lieutenant colonel.

Surviving are three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Freida Finney and husband J.E. of Jefferson City, Mo., Betty Fox and husband Merle of Greencastle and Norma Albin of Greencastle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Floyd Sims, Marvin Sims, Paul Sims, Frank Sims and Maurice Sims; a brother-in-law, Tom Albin, and her husband, Jim, who she married on Jan. 1, 1950 in Clayton, N.M.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Staggers officiating. Calling will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
