Greencastle falls to Pioneers

MOORESVILLE -- The Greencastle Tiger Cubs girls' basketball team traveled to Mooresville Tuesday night, knowing they would have a tough task on their hands, against the undefeated, IBCA sixth-ranked, Mooresville Pioneers.

The Lady Tiger Cubs played hard against the Pioneers, but Mooresville played up to their reputation and ranking, defeating Greencastle, 73-31.

Greencastle had balanced scoring with Mallory Miller, Chelsea Samuels, Hannah Spencer, Becky Grivas, Cassie Alspaugh, and Kelsey Wainman getting into the score book for the Lady Tiger Cubs.

However, 62 percent shooting from the field by Mooresville compared to 23 percent by Greencastle proved to be the difference in the game.

"They are a ranked team, so we knew we would have a hard time against them tonight," commented Greencastle coach Glen Hile after the game.

"We did some nice things offensively tonight, and we hope that will help us in our next games," added Hile.

Greencastle was led in scoring by Mallory Miller with 12 points.

Samuels followed with seven, Spencer added six, and Grivas, Alspaugh, and Wainman closed out the Lady Tiger Cub scoring with two points each.

Samuels led the Lady Tiger Cubs in rebounds with eight boards, followed by Grivas with seven, Samuels had a blocked shot, Nobles, Spencer, and Samuels each passed for an assist, and Miller had three steals, followed by Spencer with two, and Grivas, Alspaugh, and Wainman with one each.

In the junior varsity game, Greencastle lost to Mooresville, 22-51.

Taylor Pruitt led the Lady Tiger Cubs in scoring with eight points, followed by Hilary Schroeder and Hannah Deer with five each.

Hannah Wainman scored three, and Karly Bumgardner closed out the Lady Tiger Cub scoring with one point.

The Lady Tiger Cubs (5-7, 1-1 WCC) host South Putnam Friday night, in the opening game of the girls-boys West Central Conference doubleheader. The game begins at 6:00.
