Cloverdale replaces pipe on Lincoln Street
CLOVERDALE -- A section of pipe has been replaced at the corner of Lincoln Street and U.S. 231 in front of the Silver Bell Flower shop.
"The 150-foot section of AC piping was removed due to a leak," said Don Guthrie, utility manager. This type of pipe was used in the 1940s to early 1950s, he explained, and was set in limestone.
The limestone was removed from around the pipe and replaced with six to eight inches of sand. Should there be a leak in the future, the new pipe will be easier to access and fix.
"This is not the first section of AC pipe to be replaced," Guthrie said. More will be replaced in the future, but there is not a specific time frame set yet.
Joe Spiker Excavating was contracted by the town to make the replacement.
Spiker told Town Council members at the regular meeting Tuesday night the $6,200 project was complete with the exception of landscaping and some cement work along the ditch. These items will be finished when the weather warms up, Spiker assured the council.
