Girls' sectional pairings announced

Friday, January 30, 2009

The IHSAA girls' sectional draws were announced Thursday night and it looks like Jan. 10 will be a busy night for county schools.

In the Class 3A Owen Valley Sectional, Greencastle will play Brown County in the first game Wednesday evening. The Tiger Cubs and Eagles clashed in the opening game of the season, with GHS coming out on top 58-35.

So far this season, the Tiger Cubs have a record of 6-9 and have gone 1-6 since the start of the year.

Not only will tonight's matchup between Cloverdale and South Putnam be emotional due to homecoming, the two schools found out they will face each other in the second game Wednesday at the Class 2A Speedway Sectional.

Cloverdale has struggled this season, going 3-14, but is coming off a big overtime win against North Putnam. In contrast, South Putnam is by far the hottest team in the county at the moment. The Eagles have won 4-out-of-5 games since '09 began and lost their most recent game by a last-second shot against Monrovia.

North Putnam will play in the first game Wednesday and will face the Bruins of Tri-West. The Cougars battled the Bruins back on Dec. 9 and fell by 12 points, 53-41.
