Local teams compete for County supremacy

The South Putnam eighth grade basketball team knocked off North Putnam Monday night 52-37.

Justin Bumgardner led the Cougars with 13 points while Lewie Knoy chipped in 12 points himself. Jordan Frame added nine of his own while Aaron Parker put up six points and Kinser Franklin had four. Ryan Chestnut scored three points for the Eagles while Trent Workman and J.D. Briones each scored two points. Nick Scott rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with one point.

The Eagles will face Greencastle in the championship game today at 6 p.m.

"We are very excited to get the chance to play in this game against Greencastle," South Putnam head coach Nathan Aker said.

At North Putnam

Greencastle defeats Cloverdale

The Greencastle eighth grade boys defeated Cloverdale 63-27 in the first round of the Putnam County Tourney.

"This was a great team win," GMS head coach Jarrod Duff said. "All of our players contributed to this win in many different ways on both the offensive and defensive end of the court."

Greencastle will face South Putnam tonight in the championship game beginning at 6 p.m.

Eagle seventh graders win

In seventh grade action, the Eagles were victorious again outscoring the Cougars 31-17.

Sawyer Arnold led the Eagles with eight points, while Derek Chestnut and Taylor Arnold scored seven points each and Wes Riner chipped in five points. Hunter Barr and Nathan Criss rounded out the scoring for the Eagles scoring two points each.

For the Cougars, it was Ben Haelegrove who was the high scorer with five points. Jordan Navert followed behind with four points and Kaler Belcher, Grant Bryan, Coy Flyn and Bean Green scored two points each.

  • Why haven't any of the seventh grade games been reported on this year? Shouldn't the coach take care of this?
