Friday, February 13, 2009

The Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department has designed a special time for children and their caretakers to play and create together.

They are offering a Mommy and Me program and an Exploration Station for pre-schoolers.

Mommy and Me takes place on Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Kiwanis Room at the Putnam County Library.

The first session began Feb. 4 and runs through March 18. The focus of this session is all about the ocean. Kids will learn about whales, fish, water and the beach.

Session two begins April 8 and runs through May 20. This event focuses on spring. Children will explore flowers, learn about Earth Day and study butterflies and caterpillars.

Cost for these sessions are $30 per child and $15 for each additional child. Persons signing up for both sessions will receive a 25 percent discount on the second session.

Exploration Station is designed to teach kids to use their senses to explore a variety of seasonal thematic ideas.

There will be art, snacks, music and lots of play. There will be a new Exploration Station every month. It will be held Mondays from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Kiwanis Room at the Putnam County Library.

The next session is March 16 and will focus on St. Patrick's Day. There will be an April 13 session about spring and a May 18 session about summer.

Cost is $5 per child and $2 per each additional child. If you sign up for three sessions, the fourth is free.

Pre-registration is encouraged for both programs. For information or to sign up, call Assistant Director Cathy Stiles at 653-3395 or email cstiles@cityofgreencastle.com
