Eagles place second in tournaments

The South Putnam seventh grade girls' team played a series of contests recently. On Feb. 28 they placed second at the South Putnam Tourney, defeated Eminence last Thursday 25-15 and placed second at the Eminence Tourney Saturday.

The Eagles opened the Eminence Tourney with a win over the host Eels 29-8 with Amanda Barnes leading the way with 11 points, followed by Megan Guthrie and Aubrey Nichols with six each.

In the championship game, South Putnam lost to Monrovia 29-26. Barnes scored seven to pace the Eagles, while Nichols and Guthrie followed with six each and China Ford added five points.

Leading up to the Eminence Tourney, the Eagles scored a second place finish in their own tourney.

South Putnam defeated South Vermillion 45-34 in the first game, with Nichols racking up 17 points. Brooke Cundiff scored 12 and Barnes added 10 points in the win. The Eagles fell in the championship game 54-15, with Mariah Lee and Cundiff scoring four points each.

In the Eminence contest last Thursday, the Eagles soared to a 10-point win with Nichols and Ford scoring six each and Barnes chipping in five of her own.
