South Putnam picks up two wins

The South Putnam eighth grade girls played in the Eminence Tourney Saturday, coming away with a 1-1 record on the day.

The Eagles easily won their first contest over Eminence 40-19. Mattie Varvel scored in double figures with 11 points, while Nikki York added seven and Mallory Cash six. Jenna Jones scored five points, with Brittany Birt and Brenly Bratcher adding four and Kelsey Whitaker two. Brittany Doolin chipped in one point.

In the championship game, South Putnam fought hard, ultimately falling by one point to Monrovia 32-31.

Varvel scored 13 points, all of which came in the second half to lead the Eagles. Cash scored seven points, while Caitlyn Boyce and Jones added four and York added one.

Last Thursday, South Putnam defeated Eminence 47-12.

Cash led the way with 12 points, followed by Jones with 10 and Varvel with nine. Whitaker added six, Birt scored four points, while Boyce, Leanna Master and York added two points each.
