County swimmers compete at Tri-West Invitational

The Putnam County middle school swim teams took part in the Tri-West invitational Saturday.

The GMS boys' team walked away with a win, scoring 296 points, while North Putnam finished third with 242 and South Putnam finished fifth with 144 points.

Greencastle had the best finish in the girls meet as well, finishing second with 263 points, while North Putnam finished fourth and South Putnam finished fifth with 150 points.

The GMS boys had six first place finishes. In the 200-yard medley relay the relay team consisting of Elijah Brattain, Caleb Robinson, Evan Smith and Nash Firebaugh won with a time of 2:07.15 while Alex Asbell finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:22.54 and the100-yard freestyle in 1:02.98.

Firebaugh had an individual first-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 27.89. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Riley Boswell, Lee Hayes, Matt Sims and Asbell finished first with a time of 1:58.76, while the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Boswell, Firebaugh, Smith and Asbell finished first with a time of 4:24.37.

The Cougars had two first-place finishers in Zach Moore, who won the diving event with a score of 139.15 and Jacob Hendershot, who won the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 28.75.

For South Putnam, it was Taylor Arnold who was the only winner. He finished first in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:12.71.

For the girls' teams, North Putnam walked away with the most first place finishes with three. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Caroline Byrd, Tia Scoggan, Molly Wicox and Halsey Foltz won with a time of 2:01.24. Byrd also won the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 32.13 and Foltz won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.26.

Greencastle had two first place finishers in Harriett Watson and Sydney Cassida. Watson won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:07.69 while Cassida won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:15.35.
