Garage destroyed by fire

Monday, March 16, 2009

A Monday afternoon fire at 2337 W. Rangeline Road, Greencastle, caused an estimated $45,000 worth of damage.

A report from Greencastle Fire Department Safety Officer John McPherson said the unattached garage at the property, which is owned by William Cockerall and rented by Keith Guyer, was a total loss. Also destroyed in the fire were a 1978 Ford F-250 4 X 4 pickup and a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass, which were both in the garage.

The blaze melted vinyl siding and shattered windows on the northeast corner of the home located on the property.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, but a cat and a rabbit perished.

Greencastle firefighters were assisted at the scene by representatives from Cloverdale, Fillmore and Bainbridge fire departments, Operation Life, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department and the Putnam County Rural Electric Membership Corp.

The garage, home and pickup were all insured.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
