Hoops for Heroes benefit scheduled

Local emergency service members will be competing in the Hoops for Heroes basketball tournament April 3 and 4.

The Hoops for Heroes tournament is an event planned to help local Special Olympic athletes.

On Friday, the hardcourt action will begin at 6 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m. Players will return to the court at 8 a.m. Saturday and will continue until a winner is crowned. There will also be a 3pt. contest on Saturday.

The tournament is open to all Putnam County Emergency Service personnel. Players must be an active member of the department they are participating for. The cost is $100 per team.

The winning team will be awarded a traveling trophy. There will also be individual plaques awarded.

The price of admission for the public will be canned goods or non-perishable food items. Items collected will be donated to the Putnam County Food Pantry.

There will also be T-shirts available for $12, with the proceeds going to the Emergency Services fund.

The Emergency Services fund is designed to help emergency personnel in times of need.

All proceeds from the event will go to the local Special Olympics.

The deadline for teams to turn in rosters is March 27.
