Joseph M. Jarvis, 82, Russellville died at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on Wednesday, March 18, 2009.

He was a retired railroad agent for B&O Railroad. After retiring from the railroad, he was farm director on the radio for WCVL and WIMC. He was also a former writer for Stars & Stripes Newspaper.

He was a member of Russellville Community Church and American Legion of Russellville.

He was born on Oct. 9, 1926 in Indianapolis to Franklin Ray and Lucille Moore Jarvis. He was married to Shirley Mae Beach on June 14, 1950 in Cottage Grove. She preceded him in death on Jan. 19.

Survivors include two sons Kevin and wife Denise Jarvis of Jacksonville, Fla., James and wife Bari Jarvis of Martinsville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister Virginia and husband Lowell Harbison of Crawfordsville.

Preceding him in death was his wife and sister Elinore Rairdon and great-granddaughter Kalista Jarvis.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Russellville Community Church with the Revs. James and Kathy Elliott officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Burial will be in Russellville Cemetery.
